We fully expect to see great results with our transition program and we want to share our successes with the many people who helped to make it possible. Our deepest thanks go to the following people for helping us to turn our dreams of a rehabilitative adult foster care facility into reality:
Donna LeBlanc Donna worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to make Transition Home a reality. It was Donna who did much of the legwork that was involved in setting up the business. As purchasing agent, she acquired essential materiel to make Transition Home function smoothly and effectively. She employed her talents for planning, scheduling, organizing, decorating and delegating to bring the project from concept to completion in the shortest time possible. As president and CEO of Home Entrepreneurs, Inc. (Transition Home’s parent company), she wears many hats, and she wears them well.
Mr. Denny Fryrear Denny is the State of Oregon Adult Foster Home Licensing Authority for Baker County. In addition to providing some of the forms and information resources we needed to make Transition Home compliant with state regulations, Denny offered insightful suggestions and invaluable advice, based on his years of experience, on how best to meet the state licensing requirements. The “personal touch” he brought to the licensing process was both refreshing and appreciated.
Mr. Robert White Rob conducted an intensive 2-day Foster Home boot camp class, Ensuring Quality Care, which was followed by the required licensing test for foster home operators. His good-humored teaching method made it easy for us to absorb the information we needed in order to pass the test.
Rick Bryan Rick wrote a compelling letter and submitted it to the city council on our behalf. His letter was instrumental in convincing the city council to approve the zoning law change that made it possible for Transition Home to proceed. Mr. Bryan lives in Halfway, Oregon, where he owns Old Pine Grocery and Old Pine Footwear.
Tim Collins Tim, as City Manager and attorney for the city of Baker City, researched the zoning laws and wrote an extensive summary of his findings, which he then presented to the city council along with his recommendation that they approve our request for a zone change.
Baker City Planning Commission The Baker City Planning Commission evaluated our request to open an adult foster home in a commercial district and gave their unanimous approval. We’d like to express our thanks to the following planning commission members for their help in making Transition Home a reality:
Barbara Ackerman
Wayne Burnside
Robert Ellingson
Wes Elder
Ken Rockwell
Alan Blair
Sharon Rudi
City Council of Baker City The City Council unanimously approved a change in the wording of the city zoning ordinances, clearing the way for Transition Home to proceed to the next step of the startup process. We’d like to acknowledge the following council members, and extend our thanks to them, for their participation in making Transition Home possible:
Randy Daugherty
Dennis Dorrah
Peter Ellingson, Mayor
Chuck Hofmann
Jeff Petry
Chuck Phegley
Nancy Shark
Fern Taylor Fern juggled product inventory, delivery and carpet installer schedules to get Transition Home’s main living area and tenant bedrooms carpeted within our time frame. She also suggested cost-saving options that brought the job to completion below initial estimates. Thoroughly professional in every aspect of her business, Fern raises the standard of excellence for businesses in our community. She operates:
Cover Works 1924 Broadway Baker City, OR97814 (541) 523-6501
Bob Turner Bob worked closely with Fern to deliver an outstanding job of carpet installation. He rearranged his own busy schedule to accommodate ours, and completed the installation on time, with little disruption to our daily routine.
Matthew Rex Matt is an electrical technician specializing is low-voltage electrical systems for homes and businesses. He installed an interconnected fire-and-smoke alarm system for us that put Transition Home above and beyond any and all government-mandated safety codes. His services were prompt, efficient and reasonably priced, and we highly recommend them to anyone requiring low-voltage electrical work. Matt owns and operates:
T-Rex Systems and Technologies 2850 7th Street Baker City, OR97814 (541) 519-5069
Dave Dave installed an air conditioner in Transition Home’s living room, then, in a 2-day marathon session, built an elaborate wheelchair ramp so we could meet state-mandated accessibility requirements. In addition to being a jack-of-all-trades, Dave is an entrepreneur, private pilot and accomplished musician.
Phil Hanson Phil initially provided proofreading and editing for a proposal that was presented to the Baker City Planning Commission and City Council, in order to effect a zone change that would pave the way for the establishment of Transition Home. Having succeeded in that endeavor, we then sought his expertise in editing and revising a number of articles for the Transition Home Web site. An Internet entrepreneur, he provides Web page editing services, in the form of proofreading, editing and freelance writing, from his Web site, Perfect Text. He also writes, edits and publishes Petey's Pipeline E-zine, an on-line publication for Web page writers, e-zine publishers and other ‘Netrepreneurs.
